Results...

Ella's test results are in and aside from "viral indications" in the blood tests everything came back negative. The pediatrician (known hereafter as Dr Bubba) said that since she has improved so much and the symptoms were similar to ours and the tests indicate a virus it looks like she just caught whatever bug Hubband and I had last week.

Home...

Well, we're here. We were released yesterday afternoon, even though the final results haven't come back on the cultures. Ella's fever had gone away, she was nursing again, etc, so the doc thought we'd be good to come home. Im operating on severe sleep deprivation (about 13 hours over the last 72) and Ella seems to have gotten some baby GERD (acid reflux) but otherwise we're good. Hubband is back to classes tomorrow, with papers and projects and tests this week so here's hoping that we get better sleep tonight. Baby girl had a rough day sleep wise (her tummy would wake her up... and she threw up a couple times again) but hopefully that will translate into a good NIGHT of sleeping. She's out right now, went down at around 8 (but only if I was holding her) and I was finally able to transfer her to her basket about 30 minutes ago and grab dinner, go potty, and get ready for bed. With my luck the way its been lately, she'll wake up just as I doze off. But Im tired, so dozing is going to commence.... NOW.

Time out...

So, that bath she was going to have? Those flying colors she passed with? Were shortlived. By Thursday afternoon our princess was throwing up everything she ate and more and by 3 am Friday her temperature had reached the danger zone for infants (100.4) and passed it (to 100.5) and we were on our way to the emergency room. Because of her age and the fever she was automatically admitted and with the addition of my GBS positive status at her birth she was also subjected to a full panel of tests to attempt to determine the source of the problem. She had xrays, a spinal tap, blood drawn, urine and stool samples collected, and was given an iv with fluids. We've been in the hospital ever since and while her temps have normalized and she's able to nurse again (she couldn't keep it down for about 24 hours... I was in major pain before the hospital was able to give me a pump to use!) we still haven't received the results of the culture on the spinal fluid. Everything else appears to be back to normal (she was slightly anemic and her potassium levels were low at admission) and if the 36 hour culture comes back clean we get to take her home this afternoon. I'll keep everyone updated!

Above Average!

Ella had her 2 week checkup this morning and is in the 70th percentile across the board! At 21 days old she weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs 4 oz (Mommy rocks with the breastfeeding) and is now 21.5 inches long. She passed all her other tests with flying colors and... last night? She lost her cord stump! Our baby is a BIG GIRL now. And she's gettin' her first tub bath this afternoon!

Day 3

We are home and being taken excellent care of by DangerElf and Hubband. The elf cleaned our house to prepare for homecoming and the only stress we've had at all is with trying to keep Priscilla from loving the baby a little too much. She has only once been a real problem, barking at the baby's bassinet when Ella moved in her sleep. In general, she tries to kiss the baby whenever Ella makes a noise and sniffs everything that comes in contact with the baby with great joy. My milk came in today, so Ella and I are both much happier with breast feeding, too! And now, I will leave you to nap as the baby is napping... with a dose of uber-cuteness to hold you over until I get back...
