Cakes galore

I'm in the process of compiling a portfolio of sorts on Flickr of my cakes. I have yet to find photos of the fish, turtle, and lobster that I did for Jackson's 1st birthday, but otherwise I think we're close to being complete...

What do you think?

The tile saga... concluded

When we left the tile story last it was Thursday evening and we were heading out to a social committee meeting at the church. We got home around 9 pm and jumped right back into the task.

Well, Hubband did anyway. At 8 months pregnant, I was not allowed to do much with the tile. After a lot of pleading and research, however, Hubband agreed to let me lay 1-2 tiles. He got me gloves, he prepared the thinset in a different room, he sat me down on the floor with all my tools, and proceeded to document the results:

Once I was done, he got back to the serious business of laying the rest of the tile. Because of the number of cuts needed and our hectic schedule, he did not finish until 6 am the next morning! By the time the thinset had cured, it was too late to grout, so we spent the Sabbath on beautifully tiled but ungrouted floors. While the thinset cured, Hubband prepped the kitchen for paint.

...and I painted it! (Hubband got all the high parts and the back corners my belly wouldn't let me reach...)

Priscilla helped her Dad clean the thinset off the tiles on Saturday night.

On Sunday, it was groutin' time!
When it was done, Hubband and Priscilla got down to the job of finishing the laundry room. You can see in this pic how helpful Pris is being and how beautiful the floors look!
And so ends the saga of tile! We adore it.

Getting the Giggles

There have been several episodes of "the giggles" this week, which is a good thing since the most commonly used term to describe how Im feeling these days is "short-tempered" (that's the nice version). We got the giggles on the way home from some errands because of a disagreement on how fast it is to get home 2 different routes (I say one is faster, Hubband says the other is), we got the giggles over his drive home from the base on Sunday afternoon, which was perfectly matched by the opera memphis song playing on the radio (right down to the grand finale and final note just as he pulled the brake in the driveway), etc. But I think the best one is the fit of giggles I just had. Im sitting curled up on the couch with my laptop, editing hematology (or trying to... my eyes keep crossing) and suddenly my computer started jumping. I looked down and Ella was kicking with all her might at the edge of the laptop that was touching my tummy. I started laughing, which apparently made her madder, because the kicks got harder and my laptop started doing something I can only call a "lap dance". Once I opened blogger, though, Ella decided that she would rather kick my ribs since the pesky computer wasn't going anywhere. Still. A dancing computer. >squee<

Progress

The tile is finally going in! Well, it's kind of been going in all week, what with some setbacks in other areas, but the last of it goes down tonight! This is what the dining room looked like when we ran out to a social committee meeting at the church:

Patient dog waiting for Dad to come out of the gated area and play.

King of the hill could care less, as long as you move the stove before too long. Its taking up lounging space in his living room.

Mixing more thinset....but its fun when you get to pour it out on the floor!

I like running my paws through the goop and then leading mom and dad all over the house trying to catch me to clean them off. Its a great game! Of course, then they put that fence up and now I can't get to the goop. What a drag.
Oh, and by the way? All these pics are courtesy of Hubband and I's Christmas gift to ourselves (or Valbirthmas...if you figure its really for all those). We bought a new digital camera last month and it finally arrived today!

Live Long, and Prosper!

Our newest nephew is well prepared to join the ranks of the Trekkies in this family.... Isn't he adorable?!!
