Blog Deficit

I knew I had slowed down my blogging "prolificacy" (yes, I still enjoy making up words to blog about), but I didn't realize how much so until I saw the weeks of photos with only a few words. Please chalk it up to "afterbirth" effects....and pregnancy effects...and renovation... and.... well, anything you can think of!

We're still swamped. Regularly. This weekend, even literally! Thunderstorms dropped so much rain that our entire road was covered in at least 2 inches of water. Hubband got a lot things done around the house, and we had some quality play time with Ella, but our lawn now requires a machete to get across without losing yourself.

AH HA! I have discovered the true reason for my dearth of wordy blogs and its currently hollering for "MA MA MA MA MA MA" from it's crib. Im off. Enjoy another photo in my absence, will you?

Oberon Bagheera

He is getting old, and with his ailments he isn't a HAPPY kitty much of the time anymore, but he's still our beautiful panther cat.... and we love him.

A Message from BabyBee

Back in the Saddle

Thursday afternoon I received a phone call from the mother of the bride who's wedding cake I did at Christmastime. Her son-in-law (not the groom, her other daughter's husband) was turning 31 and could I do a cake for his birthday party on Saturday? Obviously, it would need to be completed for them to pick up on Friday evening before sundown so I did a few quick calculations in my head, made sure Hubband would be willing to take some extra baby duty, and agreed. They wanted a baseball diamond, his favorite team is the Razerbacks and favorite color red. His ball number for the local team is 33. We actually made a figure out of gumpaste but did not put it on the cake because it didn't dry in time to decorate and include. The client (I have cake clients!) took it with her and was planning to use it even though it was unfinished. The grass piping took the longest, but it looks pretty realistic I thought! Hubband carved the bases and made baseballs for me out of gumpaste and I made the baseball bat and piped the stripes on the balls. It really was a collaborative effort. While I'm not thrilled with it (I feel its not as good as it could be), it was fun to get back to it for the first time since BabyBee was born. What do you think?

On Sleeping

Did I mention that we have SLEEP? Not a lot of it, as we are suddenly able to accomplish things in the evening with the freedom to sleep past 3 am because ELLA IS SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT. She goes down at around 7 pm and wakes between 5 and 6 am. This works out perfectly for us when we remember to get to bed early-ish because we're then up and at 'em nice and early. I can finish my work day early enough for Hubband to have daylight to work on the house and yard projects and he can take care of the baby while I work so I can get more accomplished. Her first through-the-night? May 7, 2008. Age: 9 weeks 5 days

How the House Hubband Spends His Days...

Ok, not really. At least, not ALL day... but at least 2 times a week this is the scene in my office chair. As a matter of fact, if you had a bit of sunshine to that photo, put Ella in a yellow playsuit (with her Walla Walla sweet onion bib) and Hubband in a Corpsman t-shirt you have my office chair at this exact moment. To make matters more sleepy, Priscilla is curled up on the guest bed behind me. Is it any wonder that I'm dying for a nap at this time of day?

I've been keeping myself awake with a combination of work and planning dinner. I'm going to make turkey meatloaf (attempt?!) tonight, with mashed potatos and roasted broccoli. If I am energetic enough, the meatloaf will include some cheese and be topped with a sun dried tomato pesto. If not? Well, I think I'll do it anyway. :-) It sounds pretty darn good right now. Comfort food is what everyone needs after a hard weekend of being lazy.

UPDATE: I grabbed the camera and shot this when Priscilla jumped off the bed and joined Hubband and Ella...Don't you want to join in that nap, too?

Happy Mother's Day!

I was utterly and completely spoiled by Hubband and LittleLady today. They took me to breakfast at Brother Juniper's (the BEST bfast restaurant I think I've ever been to...) and after we got home and I opened my cards, Hubband put me down for a nap. THREE HOURS LATER I woke up! WOW! That's almost a full night's sleep these days! We ran some errands and then went to eat at a Mexican restaurant and came home. After bathing the baby and putting her to sleep this evening, I went back out and bought a pair of capris pants at Target and then treated myself to a decaf latte at Starbucks, which I drank while reading the new book Hubband bought me. Isn't that SPOILED? So nice!

Hope all the Mothers that I love had as good a day as me!
Happy Mother's Day, ya'll.

2 Months Update

Ella had her 2 month checkup and first shots yesterday. I give some of the details in this video...and because I was dreadfully tired, I give them more than once. Please forgive this, and enjoy the smiles and goo's that make up the interesting portion of the soundtrack.
